Riding against the tide: Two life experiences that mould me.

There are two experiences of mine I wanted to share. Maybe it will comfort someone or it will challenge someone going through a very difficult situation right now. Maybe help is not coming from everywhere you look, and it seems like the end of the road to you right now.

Background

This is my real-life story, which happens in Nigeria between 2003 and 2010. I was born in a little border town between Nigeria and Benin Republic called Idiroko. A sudden tragic event had happened that made my mum to lost her business and it has been a struggle since then. So she decided I moved to a bigger city where I could get a better education than I would in the small town we lived in.

One

When I moved to Ilorin, Kwara State Nigeria in 2003 to continue my education. I was to stay with my sister, my mum had agreed she would be responsible for my school fees and materials. So all I owe to her is a roof to my head and meal.

Then she came up with a brilliant idea that I can’t just be eating without doing something for it. So she started a small business selling bathroom slippers. Which I had to hawk after returning from school in the afternoon. And this is aside from numerous house chores I had to do on a daily basis and loads of them on weekends. Talk…
